E-Numbers denote specific food additives utilized in the food industry, standardized by the European Economic Community (EEC) and widely adopted internationally. Many E-numbers may contain undisclosed haram ingredients, particularly those derived from animal and insect sources.

These reference numbers serve as a means for the European Union to identify food additives systematically. Approximately similar identifiers are recognized in regions such as the USA, UK, and Australia. The assignment of E-numbers is conducted by the European Commission following thorough evaluation by the Scientific Committee on Food (SCF), which assesses the safety of food additives within the EU.
